So there are sooooo many benefits to running. Ever heard of the runner’s high? Yeah, I’m still looking for that one too but really, I’ll start with my absolute favorite reason!
- NO GYM MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED.
- I’ve never been much of a gym person. I know that no one is paying attention to me but I am so self-conscious that my face is red, or my shirt is half tucked in or tripping over my own two feet on the treadmill. Running can be done almost anywhere. I love being able to just step out the door and hit the pavement. Whether I’m at home, my sister’s house, a friend’s or even on vacation. I recently parked at a friend’s condo, stepped out of my car and just started running. It’s really that easy!
- IMPROVED MOOD
- I generally feel better after a run. Notice, I said after…not always before or during, haha. Even if my run wasn’t all I wanted it to be, the sense of accomplishment I have after finishing makes me glad I sucked it up and ran.
- WEIGHT LOSS/MAINTENANCE
- This is generally why I choose any form of exercise. However, running typically burns the most calories per hour than other forms of exercise.
- NO SPECIAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
- Just pull on a shirt, shorts and tennies and you’re all set. I would highly recommend finding the right pair of running shoes but it’s not necessary to get started.
These are just a few of my top reasons but there are more benefits to running:
- It’s good for your heart
- Runner’s high
- It strengthens your joints
- It’s a killer leg workout
- It works your core
- Alone time!
- Strong running community
Do any of these benefits resonate with you? Let me know which one(s) in the comments below.
