This is the first post in a monthly series on running for charity. Since I joined a Facebook running group for my 1000 mile challenge this year, I’ve seen several posts about charitable miles.  I decided to check a few out for myself and wanted to do my first post about an app that makes it really easy to run miles for your favorite charities.

CharityMiles.org

Charity Miles is a for-profit company that gets sponsors to contribute and enables individuals to “walk, run, bike, skip, dance or do any human-centered activity” to raise funds for over 40 partners.

These partners include Feeding America, Pencils of Promise, and World Wildlife Fund. Their website says that their charity partners are selected through a series of criteria rather than based on their overhead ratios.

The charities receive their relative portion of the sponsorship pool at the end of each term based on the numbers of miles earned.

So how can you participate?

It’s very easy.

1 – Download the app.

2 – Create your account.

3 – Pick your charity.

4 – Get started on your activity.

The app takes care of it from there.

I downloaded the app myself.  I chose the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in memory of my dad who passed from Leukemia in 2010. My first miles were on Wednesday morning.

Check it out.  You can download the app here.
